The results of observations on Spodoptera littoralis in Ligurian (Italy) protected basil crops (Ocimum basilicum) and experimental trials for its control are reported. The moth, which infests this crop mainly in spring and in autumn, has in recent years intensified its attacks and is today considered one of the most harmful pests affecting basil crops. Due to the scarceness of registered products, it is very difficult to control S. littoralis.
