In trials on 3 fields in 1985-92, a rotation of fallow/2 years winter wheat/fallow/winter wheat/spring barley was given 6-year totals of 0, 20, 40 or 60 t farmyard manure (FYM)/ha, alone or with 3 rates of N and P. FYM was applied once and P twice per rotation cycle when the fallow was ploughed and N was applied to each cereal crop before sowing. FYM increased the yield of the rotation by 21-37%.
