Behavioural pattern of sows during farrowing

, : Behavioural pattern of sows during farrowing. Indian Journal of Animal Research 29(1): 72-74

Sows from 3 genetic groups were used to study abnormal behaviour during farrowing. 11 of 96 sows showed abnormal behaviour (biting and killing of first and second piglets). Genetic group did not have significant effect on percentage of abnormal behaviour. The correlation between abnormal behaviour and litter size at birth was very high (0.82+or-0.09).
