Biodegradation of Lindane by Pleurotus sajor-caju and toxic effects of Lindane and its metabolites on mice

Biodegradation of Lindane by Pleurotus sajor-caju and toxic effects of Lindane and its metabolites on mice

Bulletin of Environmental Contamination and Toxicology 59(3): 352-359

The physiological conditions that cause degradation of lindane by Pleurotus sajor-caju were determined. The effects of lindane on blood cells of mice were also examined. The optimum conditions for degradation of lindane and growth of P. sajor-caju were pH 5, incubation period 20 days, 30 degrees C and a concentration of 50 micro M. Lindane degradation started to increase after 10 days incubation, reaching a maximum after 20 days. The LD50 of lindane for mice was 97.50 mg/kg.
