Amata passalis, a defoliator of sandalwood (Santalum album) in India, is also recorded on various alternate food plants. Larvae of the pest were reared independently on cycas (Cycas circinalis), mulberries and sandalwood in the laboratory and completed their life cycle in 57.81 +or- 2.91, 62.73 +or- 3.03 and 61.58 +or- 1.76 days, and oviposited 419.90 +or- 116.99, 479.90 +or- 76.78 and 381.10 +or- 81.78 eggs, respectively.
