Border-strip irrigation strategies for dairying in Canterbury with a restricted water supply

Border-strip irrigation strategies for dairying in Canterbury with a restricted water supply

Dairyfarming Annual Palmerston North 48: 13-21

Dairy cow grazed pastures on a Lismore stony silt loam and a Mayfield silt loam, a considerably deeper soil, from the title region, New Zealand, were compared. Within soil types farmers selected a good and poor producing sward. Pastures were irrigated at 21 day intervals prior to mid-January, from then until late April borders were either un-irrigated or irrigated at 21 or 35 day intervals.
