Can we predict what mothers do? Modeling childhood diarrhea in rural Mexico

Can we predict what mothers do? Modeling childhood diarrhea in rural Mexico

Human Organization 55(1): 47-57

A decision model is constructed to predict how Mexican women treat childhood diarrhoea in rural households. From ethnographic interviewing, it was found that women's beliefs about types and causes of diarrhoea, and women's perceptions about different treatments do not uniformly affect behavior. Some beliefs appear to affect treatment choices but others have no noticeable consequences. It was found that beliefs about diarrhoea and its treatment varied among community members.
