Carob moth, a pest of pistachio nut in Iran

Carob moth, a pest of pistachio nut in Iran

Acta Horticulturae ( 419): 365-372

The carob moth, Ectomyelois ceratoniae, is a well known pest of pomegranate in Iran. In surveys in 1989-91, it was found in most pistachio plantation areas of Kerman and Yazd provinces. The pest moved from alternative hosts, mainly pomegranate, onto pistachio and was observed infesting pistachio nuts from late July, when the hulls first crack, and infestation increased in the period to harvest. Maximum activity was found to be during September and October in Rafsanian.
