In trials between 1988 and 1991 with trees of the cultivar Suncrest planted in 1984, all trees received a compound NPK fertilizer (77:56:168) at 700 kg/ha in the autumn and potassium ammonium nitrate at 158 kg/ha. The whole dose was applied in Mar. or in autumn, or two-thirds were applied in Mar. and one-third in June. Comparison was made with applying only the compound fertilizer. Data are presented on changes in available N in the soil, leaf N content, yields and trunk circumference.
