Characterization of Cryphonectria parasitica strains by random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) technique and conventional methods

In recent years damage to Austrian Castanea sativa populations caused by Cryphonectria parasitica has increased. A total of 34 isolates of the pathogen from 13 observation plots in SE Austria were examined for laccase activity, virulence, number of vegetative compatibility groups, and the existence of hypovirulence associated dsRNA. The applicability of the random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) technique for investigating population structure was also tested.
