Characterization of Enterococcus strains isolated from ready-to-eat foods

Revista de Microbiologia 26(2): 121-124

Thirteen strains of Enterococcus faecalis and five strains of E. faecium isolated from foods were studied. Production of thermonuclease (TNase), hemolytic activity on human and rabbit blood and susceptibility to anti microbial agents were analyzed. Only one strain was beta-hemolysis positive. No production of TNase and beta-lactamase or resistance to vancomycin and to high levels of aminoglycosides (HLAR) were detected.
