Characterization of adenylate kinase in intact mitochondria of fertile and male sterile potato (Solanum tuberosum L.)

Characterization of adenylate kinase in intact mitochondria of fertile and male sterile potato (Solanum tuberosum L.)

Plant Science Limerick 116(1): 1-8

Mitochondria were isolated from tubers of different haploid breeding lines of potatoes with known genetic background, the substrates of the mitochondrial enzyme adenylate kinase (AK, E.C. 2.7.4.3) were determined via enzyme assay, and the presence of AK in intact mitochondria was demonstrated by the addition of AMP. The substrates were determined to be ADP and MgADP (forward reaction) and AMP and MgATP (reverse reaction).
