Characterization of glutathione S-transferase from rice (Oryza sativa L.) and early watergrass (Echinochloa oryzicola Vasing.) seedlings using pretilachlor as a substrate

Some properties such as molecular weight, pH optima, Km, Vmax and substrate specificity of glutathione S-transferase (GST) from rice and early watergrass (Echinochloa oryzoides) seedlings were characterized. The molecular weight of GST catalysing pretilachlor (GST(pret)) or CDNB (GST(CDNB)) with reduced glutathione (GSH) was almost the same in the two plant species and calculated to be about 52 000 Da. The optimum pH for GST(pret) in both rice and early watergrass was 6.5.
