Characterization of minisatellite sequences in rice and their application for DNA fingerprinting

Molecular markers have significant value in breeding programmes to characterize and evaluate genetic variability in germplasm and to identify varieties. However, use of RFLP and RAPD markers can require more than 40 markers and several enzyme combinations to identify germplasm variation. Rice microsatellite probes were evaluated for their potential in detecting DNA fingerprints and assessing genetic variation in the genus Oryza.
