Characterization of some hydraulic properties of an Inceptisol and a Mollisol of Western Samoa

Characterization of some hydraulic properties of an Inceptisol and a Mollisol of Western Samoa

Journal of South Pacific Agriculture 3(1/2): 43-45

Field and laboratory experiments were conducted to characterize steady infiltration rate, hydraulic conductivity and soil water retentivity relationships for two soil orders, an Inceptisol (Alafua soil) and a Mollisol (Moamoa soil) of Western Samoa. The average steady infiltration rates were 52 and 12 cm/h for Alafua and Moamoa soils while the calculated hydraulic conductivity values (between 0-15 cm layer) were 3.0 x 10-3 and 4.6 x 10-4 cm/s, respectively.
