Comparative biochemical profile of surface plasma membranes of pulmonary and hepatic protoscolices of Echinococcus granulosus

Biochemical analysis of surface plasma membranes isolated by Triton X-100 from protoscoleces of pulmonary and hepatic hydatid cysts from buffaloes revealed differences between lung and liver isolates. Lipid and sialic acid levels were comparatively higher in the membranes of the liver isolates. Among the lipid fractions, cholesterol, phospholipid and triglyceride levels were higher in membranes of liver isolates, whereas levels of free fatty acid were higher in membranes of lung isolates.
