Comparison of maximum evapotranspiration in wheat with class A pan evaporation and Penman's estimates of evapotranspiration using different wind functions

In field trials in 1991-93 at Hendi-Zitoun in the semi-arid region of Tunisia with Triticum durum Karim sown in mid-November, class A pan evaporation was not closely correlated with water consumption measured by the soil water balance method, but Penman's formula, based on different wind functions in mid-December to mid-February and from mid-February to the end of April gave accurate estimates of maximum evapotranspiration.
