The water flux and the coupled transport of anions (bromide, nitrate) in two undisturbed soils (Cambisol/sandy loess, Haplic Phaeozem/loess black earth) used in long-term lysimeter studies were investigated by means of stable isotopic (D2O, itrate) and conservative (bromide) tracers. Prior to the subdividion of the lysimeter monoliths (at 9 months) a tracer breakthrough was observed in the sandy loess soil only.
