An examination of the Bombay Pentangular, an annual cricket tournament played between 1907 and 1944 and comprising of teams selected according to religious affiliations is conducted to determine whether the tournament promoted a healthy spirit of rivalry between the communities, or rather whether it contributed to the Partition of India, brought about on the basis of religion in 1947. The investigation also highlights the Hindu caste system through an analysis of the cricketing career of P.
