Crossing of varieties and lines of hexaploid wheat Triticum aestivum L. with diploid rye Secale cereale and production of primary octoploid triticale forms

In all, 15 bread wheats were crossed in 75 combinations with 5 ryes resistant to grain sprouting. Hybrid grain set ranged from 0.5% in CDH321-77 x Ponsi to 21.2% in TAW5466-74 x Othello. The best crossability with all the ryes was shown by wheat strain TAW5466-74, and the best pollinator was the rye Donar. Germination percentage of the hybrid grain ranged from 13.8% in Begra x Ponsi to 100% in Koda x Ponsi and Granada x Ponsi.
