Cultivar selection in perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne), Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.), red fescue (Festuca rubra L.) and tall fescue (Festuca arundinaceae Schreb.) for use as turf for amenity, sport and recreational use in central Italy

Cultivar selection in perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne), Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis L.), red fescue (Festuca rubra L.) and tall fescue (Festuca arundinaceae Schreb.) for use as turf for amenity, sport and recreational use in central Italy

Rivista di Agronomia 31(1): 127-134

In a trial near Perugia in 1994, variability within species was studied using 16 L. perenne cultivars, 16 P. pratensis cultivars, 3 F. rubra subsp. rubra cultivars, 6 F. rubra subsp. commutata cultivars, 3 F. trichophylla (F. rubra subsp. tricophylla) cultivars and 6 F. arundinacea cultivars. The grasses were sown in pure stands in March 1991. Differences of statistical significance were found in L. perenne for general appearance in summer and for turf colour in January, March, and May.
