Damage by cotton bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera Hubner) in grapevine

Damage by cotton bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera Hubner) in grapevine

Novenyvedelem 32(5): 229-234

An outbreak of adults of the noctuid Helicoverpa armigera on grapevines in Hungary in the 3rd 10-day period of August 1995 is reported. The eggs were laid in batches of up to 100 eggs with 1-12 eggs/berry on the surface of grape berries on the southernmost clusters. Egg mortality was 90% on grape clusters that were taken into the laboratory, but no parasitoids were observed. Newly-hatched larvae bored into the grapes, and on white varieties the entry holes were surrounded by brown rings.
