Degradation of dibenzothiophene sulphoxide and sulphone by Arthrobacter strain DBTS2

Degradation of dibenzothiophene sulphoxide and sulphone by Arthrobacter strain DBTS2

Microbios 83(336): 145-159

A naturally occurring str. of Arthrobacter able to utilize dibenzothiophene (DBT) sulfone was shown to also use DBT-sulfoxide and other sulfur-containing aromatic compounds. The presence of naphthalene or biphenyl prompted the release of inorganic sulfur from DBT-sulfone. Naphthalene increased O2 uptake but did not affect DBT-sulfone oxidation, which was, however, encouraged by DBT-sulfone or DBT-sulfoxide, and discouraged by succinate or acetate.
