Determination of the bacteriological quality of raw milk by automatic fluorescent microscopic counting of single bacteria (Bactoscan 8000) - a review

The following characteristics of the Bactoscan 8000 for analysis of raw milk were established: detection range was between 10-20 000 c.f.u./ml and >3 million c.f.u./ml; after 100 Bactoscan counts (BC) repeatability (r) and reproducibility (R) were 0.06 and 0.12 log c.f.u./ml respectively; and accuracy (sy,x) was 0.20-0.35 log c.f.u./ml. Changes in sensitive reagents could cause systematic deviations of BC.
