Diallel cross analysis of grain filling duration in barley

Seven varieties and their 21 F-1 hybrids from 7 times 7 partial diallel crosses were used as the materials to obtain genetic informations on grain filling duration in barley. The variety having relatively long grain filling duration was Olbori, while short grain filling duration ones were Bunong and Dongbori 1. The general combining ability (GCA) and specific combining ability (SCA) for grain filling duration were showed highly significant. respectively, and mean square values of GCA was higher than that of SCA. In analysis of general combining ability, Bunong, Dongbori 1, Olbori and Albori were showed positive effects for the grain filling duration but Oweolbori. Tapgolbori and Kangbori were showed negative ones. In case of gene effects for the grain filling duration, additive effect was greater than dominant one, and that showed partial dominance. As the result of above experiment for release of barley varieties suitable for double cropping with rice in paddy, to use the early variety. Dongbori I or little late variety Bunong, as cross parents was better than to use extremely early variety Oweolbori. There was significant SCA between Tabgolbori and Kangbori.
