Sugarcane is the most important commercial crop in Maharashtra but productivity per unit area of land and irrigation water resource has shown a continuous decline due to limitations on availability of water resources for irrigation and farm level inefficiencies in irrigation water management. Biwall drip irrigation is one of the high-technology irrigation methods expected to play a greater role in the future, increasing water use and on-farm sugarcane production efficiencies.
