During an outbreak of gypsy moth (Lymantria dispar) in 1992-94 in oak forests in Baden-Wurttemberg, southern Germany, Lymantria dispar nuclear polyhedrosis virus (LdNPV) was applied as an experimental treatment. In 1992 egg mass treatments were followed by an epizooty in the larval population. In 1993 and 1994 oak stands were treated with ground and aerial applications.
