Effect of copper on the immune responses of guinea pigs with experimental ascaridiosis

Effect of copper on the immune responses of guinea pigs with experimental ascaridiosis

Guineapigs of 250-300 g body weight were allotted to 3 groups: 83 were given CuSO4 daily at 2080 micro g/kg for 28 days, 44 of which were then given 3000 Ascaris suum eggs the day after the end of CuSO4 administration (the other 39 were non-infected controls); another 44 were not given the CuSO4 but received Ascaris suum eggs. Those given CuSO4 for 28 days showed moderate increases in T and B lymphocytes in lymph nodes and spleen.
