Effect of date of sowing and fertility levels on seed and oil yield of sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.)

In a field experiment in 1992/93 at Hisar, Haryana, sunflowers Divyamukhy were sown on the third week of Jan., or first week or third week of Feb. and given 30 kg N + 20 kg P2O5, 60 kg N + 40 kg P2O5 or 90 kg N + 60 kg P2O5/ha. Seed yields from the 3 sowing dates were 1.42, 2.51 and 2.32 t/ha, respectively. Oil yields were highest with sowing in the first week of Feb.
