Effect of delayed pollination on grain yield and quality of maize

A field experiment was conducted at the Pannon University Experimental Station, Keszthely, Hungary, during 1990-91 using 2 maize cultivars and a pollen donor which was a different single cross for both cultivars. Seeds of the male parent were sown weekly to obtain perfect pollination and a continuous pollen supply was controlled using marker plants. Ears were bagged before silk initiation and removed 0, 2, 4, 6 or 8 d after silk emergence to simulate delayed pollination.
