Effect of different concentrations of activated charcoal and GA3 on in vitro culture of Jatropha podagrica embryos
Immature embryos of J. podagrica, 0.2-0.5 cm long, were cultured on solid Murashige and Skoog medium alone or amended with 0.029-2.9 micro M GA3, with or without 0.5, 1.0 or 2.0 g activated charcoal/litre, and maintained at 20 degrees C under a 16-h photoperiod. The number of days to germination was highest (~26 days) with 1.0 g activated charcoal/litre and 0.29 micro M GA3, whilst the number of days to germination was lowest (~10.5 days) in the absence of charcoal and with 0.29 micro M GA3.
