Effect of growth stage on agronomic traits and silage quality of forage sorghum

Two lines of Sorghum bicolor, 2 of S. dochna and 3 of S. sudanense were cut at heading or 10-40 days after heading. Tiller numbers were highest in S. sudanense. Sugar content of S. bicolor and S. dochna increased after heading and reached >12% Brix at 30 and 40 days after heading. Silage pH decreased as cutting was delayed, and was generally <4.2 when cut after 30 days after heading.
