Effect of management practices of eucalyptus tree rows on the yield of sunflower and groundnut

In a field trial at Raichur, Karnataka, eucalyptus trees were planted in 1983 in rows 20 m apart and in 1990 the following treatments were applied; tree felling or no tree felling, combined with an open trench 45 cm wide and 60 cm deep beside the trees, a trench with polythene barrier inserted or no trench. In 1990/91 sunflowers and groundnuts were grown as alley crops in the kharif and rabi seasons, respectively, and were placed 0-4.5 or 4.5-9.0 m away from the trees.
