In 2 experiments the effect of addition of crude soyabeans (CS) as a source of ureases and of moisture content on the effectiveness of straw treatment of urea was studied. In experiment 1, 0.5-kg samples of wheat and barley straw were treated with urea 50 g/kg. Final moisture content was 20, 30 or 40%. With increasing moisture up to 30%, NDF decreased and digestibility of DM in vitro (IVDMD) increased. There were no differences between wheat and barley straws.
