Spring barley Galan, Jubilant and Novum were grown (after silage maize given 35 t farmyard manure/ha) in 1990-93 at Borovce, Slovakia, on degraded chernozem soil. 30, 60 or 90 kg N, 52 kg P and 116 kg K/ha were applied before sowing barley at rates of 3, 4 or 5 million seeds/ha. The highest average grain yield of 6.15 t/ha was obtained with 30 kg N and 4 million seeds/ha.
