Effect of nitrogen application methods on growth and yield of rice under different seedling densities in late season puddled-soil drill seeding

This study was carried out to clarify the proper nitrogen application method under different seedling densities in late season puddled-soil drill seeding of rice. Seedling density was adjusted to 30, 60, 90, 120 and 150 seedlings/m-2 just after emergence and nitrogen was applied five methods including conventional fertilization. The results are as follow; Maximum tillering stage was earlier as the seedling density was increased till 90 seedling per m-2 but, wasn't different more than that one. The more seedling density was, the more lodging and the less breaking weight was. The spikelets number per m-2 increased as the seedling was increased till 120 seedling per m-2 but was decreased more than it. Earlier application of topdressing at tillering stage increased the spikelets number at seedling was less than 120/m-2 but, wasn't more than it. Ripened grain ratio was increased till the seedling stand was 120 seedling per m-2. Yield was highest at 120 seedling per m-2 and increased in early topdressing at tillering stage when seedling was no more than 90 per m-2 but wasn't different more than it.
