Effect of nitrogen fertilizer sources and application dates on yield and yield components of potatoes

In field trials in 1992-93 in Turkey, potatoes were given N fertilizer as ammonium sulfate (AS), ammonium nitrate (AN) or urea at different dates. Plant height, number of tubers per hill and tuber yields were higher but the proportion of medium-sized tubers was lower when N was applied before planting. The proportion of large tubers and total tuber yield were higher with AS than AN, but plant height and the proportion of medium-sized tubers were highest when AN was applied at planting.
