Effect of partial defoliation on productivity in Indian mustard

An experiment was conducted to assess the effects on crop performance of defoliating the lower half of Indian mustard plants 25-100 days after sowing (DAS). The results indicated that seed yield/plant, number of branches/plant and harvest index were increased by defoliation up to 70 DAS, while 100-seed weight increased with defoliation up to 85 DAS, but decreased with defoliation after this date, while number of siliquae/plant increased with defoliation only up to 40 DAS.
