Effect of physical activity on life time expectancy, disease, and quality of life

, : Effect of physical activity on life time expectancy, disease, and quality of life. Japanese Journal of Nutrition 53(6): 349-360

Japan has the highest life expectancy in the world of about 76 years for men and 82 years for women. Yet, the sedentary life-style of the modern society has a number of adverse effects which can be counteracted by leisure-time activity. The decrease of maximal oxygen uptake by 0.3-0.5 ml kg-1 min-1 yearly illustrates the reduced physical activity of advanced age. Documented effects of physical activity include beneficial influences on the cardiovascular, muscular and skeletal system.
