Effect of tillage and method of sowing on wheat yield in irrigated Vertisols of Rahad, Sudan

The objective of this research was to establish the best tillage and sowing methods for wheat in a non-traditional area of production. Six treatments comprising two tillage systems (disc plowing + levelling, and disc harrowing + levelling) and three sowing methods (broadcasting, ridging, and drilling in rows) were compared in a factorial arrangement for two seasons. The greatest yields were obtained by using the disc harrow rather than the disc plow. Seed drilling as well as ridging after broadcasting resulted in significantly greater yields than broadcasting alone for the two seasons.
