Effect of variable nitrogen fertilizer application and mowing frequency on the yield of hay, protein content and the state of meadow sod and sward on peat muck soil

Effect of variable nitrogen fertilizer application and mowing frequency on the yield of hay, protein content and the state of meadow sod and sward on peat muck soil

Wiadomosci Instytutu Melioracji i Uzytkow Zielonych 18(4): 33-48

In 1987-92 a wet meadow on peat muck soil sown in 1984 with a mixture dominated by Festuca pratensis was given 80 kg P2O5 + 180 kg K2O/ha annually, with 0-240 kg N each year or in alternate years and was cut 3 times a year when N was applied and twice when it was not. Average annual hay yield was 6.4-6.7 t/ha with PK alone. When N was applied every year it increased from 8.5 t with 60 kg N to 11.1 t with 180 kg N and decreased to 10.1 t with 240 kg N.
