Establishment of smooth bromegrass (Bromus inermis Leyss.) for seed production by sowing with and without a cover crop, and on different sowing dates without a cover crop

Norsk Landbruksforsking 9(1/2): 51-58

The establishment of Bromus inermis Lofar for seed production with and without barley as a cover crop and on different sowing dates (early May to early Aug.) without a cover crop was investigated in 4 field trials in southern Norway. Use of a cover crop resulted in a seed yield of ~280 kg/ha (av. for all trials), while sowing without a cover crop earlier than the middle of July resulted in a yield of ~600 kg/ha (av. over all trials).
