Estimation of avoidable yield loss in FCV tobacco due to insect pests

Avoidable losses due to insect pests in FCV tobacco were estimated in India by comparing the different yield components from bulk plots of 0.5 acres each for protected and unprotected treatments. The reduction in the incidence of leaf curl, ground beetles aphids and tobacco caterpillars ranged from 27 to 68, 56 to 100, 79 to 100 and 33 to 79%, resp., due to the adoption of plant protection measures in 4 years.
