Evaluation of house dust mite (Dermatophagoides farinae and D. pteronyssinus) reduction techniques for stuffed animals

Evaluation of house dust mite (Dermatophagoides farinae and D. pteronyssinus) reduction techniques for stuffed animals

Pediatric Asthma Allergy and Immunology 10(3): 139-141

A total of 54 stuffed animal toys were removed from homes in Nashville, Tennessee, USA, in February 1995 and studied for the prevalence of house dust mites (Dermatophagoides farinae and D. pteronyssinus). Potential dust mite reduction techniques of vacuuming and freezing were also evaluated. It was determined that the baseline dust mite levels of stuffed animal toys were insignificant, especially when compared with the bedroom floors.
