Factors affecting the adoption of artificial insemination in the Philippine beef industry

Factors affecting the adoption of artificial insemination in the Philippine beef industry

Quarterly Journal of International Agriculture 36(2): 116-126

Since the 1970s the Filipino authorities have been implementing a strategy of increasing the size of the national herd and improving its genetic composition. In 1992 the National Breeding Programme was expanded with the aim of reaching 50% of all breeding cattle annually. The aim was to increase the use of artificial insemination (AI) to reach up to 80% of all breeding cattle. Factors affecting AI adoption are discussed using data from a survey of 85 Filipino backyard cattle producers in 1992.
