Flower and fruit development in carob (Ceratonia siliqua L.)

Flower and fruit development in carob (Ceratonia siliqua L.)

Angewandte Botanik Berichte ( 5): 194-197

Flower and fruit development were studied in 30- to 40-year-old trees of the local carob Mulata at 4 sites in southern Portugal from 1990 to 1993. Flowering and fruiting times varied considerably between sites and years, with flowering period ranging from 85 to 130 days. Heavy rainfall during flowering reduced pollination and increased flower and fruit drop.
