Gene location, chromosomal marker and inheritance of coat colour in pigs

The distribution of silver-stained nucleolus organizer regions (NOR) on chromosome 8 was studied in 86 Landrace x Fengjiang pigs, and colour inheritance was examined in 220 progeny of white x white, black x spotted, black x black and spotted x spotted matings. The genes for black and white were shown to be located on chromosome 8. The presence and absence of silver stained NORs were markers of white (A) and black (a) coat colour respectively.
