The chromosome number and karyotypes of 2 allo-nuclear CMS genotypes, NCa (A1 and A2), and their corresponding maintainers, CaN (B1 and B2), were studied and compared with those of their parents, P1 Brassica napus Zhong You 821 and P2 B. carinata 77-1292. The chromosome number of all allo-nuclear genotypes was the same as P1, i.e. 2n = 38, while the chromosome number of P2 was 2n = 34. The karyotype formulae of the materials tested were as follows: P1: 2n = 38 = 24m + 10sm + 4st; P2: 2n = 34 = 30m + 4sm; A1: 2n = 38 = 28m + 8sm + 2st; B1: 2n = 38 = 30m + 6sm + 2st; A2: 2n = 38 = 32m + 6sm; B2: 2n = 38 = 32m + 6sm.
