In a comparative isoenzyme study of 16 polymorphic loci controlling 10 enzyme systems in groups of Pinus sylvestris trees growing near industrial factories and differing in vital signs (degree of crown damage), most indices used to analyse samples grown near a magnesite plant and copper smelting works in Chelyabinsk province showed that genetic variation was greater in less damaged trees.
