In the winter rye/Fusarium culmorum head blight pathosystem, host resistance and pathogen aggressiveness behave as quantitative traits and, therefore, are likely to be governed by several genes. No significant specificity was observed for resistance or aggressiveness. Macro-environment, micro-climate at the inoculation date, and head developmental stage are important non-genetic factors affecting the ranking of host genotypes for head blight resistance.
